Artist Series 03:

Mitch Dixon

Toronto-based tattoo artist Mitch Dixon (@verified_content) brings a bold, eclectic style shaped by American traditional tattooing, comic book illustration, and punk aesthetics. His designs are unapologetically loud—built on heavy outlines, saturated colors, and imagery that feels both familiar and slightly twisted. He leans into references from comics, hardcore music, and street graphics, but reworks them with a painter’s eye for balance and detail. Every piece he creates feels alive, vibrating with energy, raw attitude, and a sense of storytelling that goes beyond skin. For the latest Livestock Artist Series, he carries that same raw energy, creating something that unapologetically his.

True artistry can often be seen as something that should be admired from a distance. At Livestock, we believe that true artistry is in fact lived, experienced and carried with you. For starters, can you introduce yourself to the people.

My name is Mitch Dixon (@verified_account), I currently live and work in Toronto, by way of Montreal, Winnipeg and Chilliwack BC. I am a tattooist, visual artist and musician.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I came up through the D.I.Y. music and arts scene in Winnipeg, influenced by 80's hardcore punk and the art style spawning out of it. I spent my time playing in bands, drawing, painting and screen printing. I left to study fine arts at Concordia University in Montreal, living and working there for five years until moving to Toronto where I've called home for the past ten years. Music and art has always been my main focus. While always working in a variety of mediums, for the past two years I've been directing most of my attention to tattooing.

Your style carries a lot of raw energy, can you talk a bit about that and where you get your inspiration from?

My artistic style is rooted in pink, hardcore, alternative and outsider art. Bold sharpie style lines, solid bright colours, rough xerox style shading, churning any ideas and imagery through the machine to create my visual world!

My inspiration comes from the past and the present: my daily life, people watching, and all my favourites that came before me, hardcore flyers and zines, 70's counter culture comics, tattoo flash and its history, high brow, low brow, it all feeds in.

How do you balance your time as a visual artist and musician?

I try to just go with the flow and follow the energy as much as possible. Playing music and tattooing are inherently collaborative, I really love having those connections with people, but also am a bit of an introvert at heart. My time drawing and painting is where I recharge and am able to create without any concessions. I definitely feel it if my collaborative and personal time is out of balance.

How do you approach designing a custom piece for a client, what is your process?

In Toronto, You can really find someone to tattoo you in any style you want. I think people are coming to me for my drawing / tattoo style. A custom piece is all about the interpretation of a concept, or source material into my way of imagining it. I like to picture all my drawings living in the same world, customs are cool because someone else is bringing new ideas into it that I might not have thought of.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking of becoming a tattoo artist?

Tattooing is like no other medium I’ve experienced. I think there should be a lot of respect involved, it’s a privilege to tattoo someone. If it’s calling to you, give it your best shot. Tattooing will always sort itself out.
