Brand Asics

In post-war Japan in 1949, Kihachiro Onitsuka founded Onitsuka Co. Ltd., building rare children’s basketball shoes out of his living room. In 1977, Onitsuka brought his popular, patented Gel sole to America under the name ASICS. The new name was an acronym for a latin phrase meaning “a sound mind in a sound body,” which would become ASICS’ mantra for producing quality footwear that promotes a healthy body, mind, and lifestyle. Since then, ASICS has remained a top contender in the world of athletic and lifestyle footwear, thanks to constant innovation in technology and design.
